Melissa Panzarello

I am a costume designer with over thirty years of professional experience creating costumes for theatre, opera, and dance. My work is rooted in bold visual concepts, strong silhouettes, and clear storytelling, always grounded in how clothing functions on real bodies under stage conditions.

I am drawn to projects that allow for striking, intentional design: work that helps define a world, sharpen character, and support the emotional architecture of a production. At the same time, I bring a deep fluency in designing ordinary people with specificity and truth. Years of guest wardrobe work for Dr. Phil sharpened my ability to costume contemporary, real-world people quickly, accurately, and without artifice, which is an experience that continues to inform my theatrical work and keeps my designs grounded and human.

My professional background includes Broadway productions with Tricorne, Inc. in New York, showgirl costumes for the Wynn in Las Vegas, and the creation of extravagant, conceptual gowns for the Tyler Rose Festival. These one-of-a-kind pieces demand theatrical scale, advanced construction, and meticulous attention to detail- all skills that translate directly to ambitious stage work and visually complex productions.

As a designer who is also an experienced maker, I approach every production with a strong command of construction, fit, and logistics. I design ambitiously but practically, with a clear understanding of budgets, schedules, and the demands placed on performers. My process emphasizes communication, efficiency, and problem-solving that ensures that the costumes support both the director’s vision and the realities of production.

Whether building a bold theatrical world or dressing characters who feel immediately recognizable and real, my goal is the same: to create costumes that serve the story with precision, intelligence, and intention.
